Sustainable Waste Management Initiative Launch in St. John's

The Department of Environment in Antigua and Barbuda is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking sustainable waste management initiative in the capital city of St. John’s. Under the banner of “Cleaner, Greener St. John’s”, this initiative seeks to revolutionize waste management practices, reduce environmental pollution, and promote community engagement.

With rapid urbanization and population growth, the management of solid waste has emerged as a pressing challenge for municipalities across the Caribbean. In response to this challenge, the Department of Environment, in collaboration with local authorities and community stakeholders, has developed a comprehensive action plan to overhaul waste management systems in St. John’s.

Key components of the initiative include the establishment of recycling centers, implementation of waste segregation programs, and promotion of composting practices. Educational campaigns and outreach programs will also be launched to raise awareness about the importance of waste reduction, recycling, and responsible consumption.

Through innovative technologies and sustainable practices, the “Cleaner, Greener St. John’s” initiative aims to achieve significant reductions in the generation of solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions. By fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for St. John’s and its residents.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this exciting initiative and opportunities to get involved in building a more sustainable St. John’s!
