A “Whistleblower” is any person or entity, who, in good faith and on reasonable grounds, reports a suspected act of wrongdoing in relation to the work of the DOE. A complaint may be submitted here to the DOE Complaints Mechanism or directly to the Integrity Commissioner under the Integrity in Public Life Act 2004 (for complaints about senior Government officials related to the work of the DOE) or the Information Commission under the Freedom of Information Act 2004.
Under the Integrity in Public Life Act 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2004, a whistleblower may bring a complaint or allegation of wrongdoing to the Integrity Commissioner or to the Information Commissioner, but must only do so with good intention, with a reasonable belief that the information is true.
If a person brings a valid complaint, that person is protected under the law, but if a person brings a complaint maliciously or with ill intention, that person may face sanctions under the laws.
